You Can Learn Conversational Hypnosis

by Lee Dobbins

For most people, the word 'hypnosis' brings to minda doctor dangling a swinging watch in front of a patient or a comedian on stage 'hypnotizing' people to do funny things. But there are many types of hypnosis, in fact, there is one you can use to influence people without them even knowing it. Yes, it's true, conversational hypnosis can be used by anyone to convince people of anything!

This is actually a technique that's been in use for ages, and it is so subtle that most people are never even aware it is happening. You see, there are no swinging watches or snapping of fingers, it simply uses different words, voice tones and other techniques that are normal during conversation.

Conversational hypnosis isn't magic or trickery, it's actually just simply using the art of persuasion, along with some key techniques, to bypass your subjects critical mind and get them to agree with your ideas. It's actually something we do at some level each day - when you try to persuade your spouse to do something or ask someone for a favor. The difference is that if you knew the techniques of conversational hypnosis you would get them to agree a lot more often!

Conversational or covert hypnosis can be used to persuade crowds or in one on one conversations. It employs the use of vocal timing, language patterns and voice intonations in order to influence others. It can be learned easily by anyone and can be used in most situations. By using this technique you can gain empathy and understanding for your views, often your subjects will be engrossed in what you have to say and easily change their minds to agree with you!

An interesting use of this type of hypnosis was by Dr. Milton Erikson who used it on many patients in the 1950's because hypnosis was banned by the AMA, and by doing it conversationally, he could use it's power for healing, but not get into 'trouble' for using hypnosis. Upon being summoned by the American Medical Association to be disciplined for his use of hypnosis, he used those same techniques on the board itself and instead of having his license revoked, the charges were dropped and the next year the AMA dropped the ban on hypnosis allowing it to be used by any doctor who wanted to!

While some may see conversational hypnosis as a way of manipulating people, it can also be seen as simply a more persuasive use of conversation. While some will try to use it for bad purposes, there is no need to be afraid of it since your subconscious will never allow you to be forced into anything that would bring you harm. In fact, in can be a great tool for you to better your life and get what you want - whether it is getting someone to buy a product from you, swaying your spouse to see your point of view on a matter or getting your boss to agree with your ideas. This very powerful hypnotic tool can be learned and used to make your life, and perhaps even the life of those around you better!
