Office Sound Masking Encourages Productivity By Reducing Distractions

by Bruce Davidson

If you are employed in a crowded office, you would be well and truly aware of the distractions to your job due to excessive noise. Many office workers are boxed in from three sides with cubicles of their so-workers. The distractions are compounded when you have several co-workers making or attending telephone calls all around you.

Office sound masking techniques have been sought a fter by many offices concerned about office privacy and an employee's noisy office, as these techniques give employees a better work environment and give offices more productive workers.

The office sound masking has been designed to generate background noises - better known as "white noise". All noises and conversations will be softened, and will allow the speaker to complete any work/tasks without any interruptions from background sounds.

The sound mimics rushing air similar to the noise produced by an air conditioner. The sound is not overpowering or distracting to employees and actually makes it easier for them to focus on their own work by covering other more intrusive sounds.

Several studies have been performed that indicate a correlation between background noise and lack of focus in individuals. The most interfering of these background noises, the study says, is that of human speech. The theory suggests that when an individual is concentrating on the words of another person, their ability to focus is substantially deterred.

Unobtrusive office sound masking muffles your coworker's voices as well as other unwanted noises. Instead of fighting distraction, you can concentrate on your important work at hand as your coworker's cacophony is quieted to a dull buzz.

Many companies have started using these techniques to ensure the privacy of the conversations between their clients and their employees, such as crucial information like credit card information, account numbers, or financial statements. It has also made a more productive and efficient work place for the companies that put it to use, creating more revenue and happier employees.

If you are employed in a crowded office, you would be well and truly aware of the distractions to your job due to excessive noise. Office sound masking techniques are being looked into by a greater number of offices lately, in hopes of increasing office privacy and decreasing the effects that a noisy office has on employees. If you pay attention, and listen to the sound, it resembles the slight rumble of an air conditioner. The level is set to cover extraneous noise without dominating the sound environment. Ultimately, this will result in happier and more productive workers.
